Anne Hathaway has officially confirmed her return for “Princess Diaries 3”

The actress took to Instagram, posting a nostalgic video featuring clips of her younger self as Mia Thermopolis and Julie Andrews as Queen Clarisse Renaldi both reacting, “Shut up!” This confirmation came just hours after Deadline reported that Adele Lim had been brought on as the film's director.

Adele Lim is much known for writing Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon (2021) and making her directorial debut with Joy Ride (2023) will helm the third installment. Lim has a notable background and has worked as a writer-producer on One Tree Hill, Lethal Weapon and co-showrunning Star-Crossed. She also wrote the screenplay for Crazy Rich Asians.

Hathaway has had a busy year, recently starring in Prime Video’s The Idea of You (2024) and appearing in Mother’s Instinct (2024), She Came to Me (2023) and Eileen (2023). Alongside Princess Diaries 3 she is now all set to return for the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada.

The first Princess Diaries film was released in 2001 giving a breakout role for Hathaway and the sequel for The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement was followed in 2004. Although no other original cast members have been confirmed for the threequel yet, Debra Martin Chase will return as producer.
